Monitoring and evaluation (M&E) is part of the core activities of PHTB Consult. Where possible, PHTB Consult uses a participatory approach in M&E, involving beneficiaries and other stakeholders where relevant.
Since 2011 PHTB Consult is part of the TB REACH initiative monitoring team. TB REACH is a funding mechanism for innovative TB interventions for TB case finding and improving treatment outcomes in key populations and hard to reach groups. PHTB Consult’s portfolio of projects included implementation of the most up to date TB diagnostics such as the Xpert MTB/RIF assay, active case finding in children and adults, and the use of m- and e-health amongst others. The current portfolio of TB REACH projects include India, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Pakistan and Viet Nam. A necessary change in 2020 occurred due to covid-19: all activities including workshops and country 'visits' took place remotely.
Epidemiological review: such a review assists the country in assessing whether the TB surveillance system captures all relevant information to reflect the incidence of TB. The review identifies potential gaps in the surveillance system or in the implementation of interventions in certain regions or groups. PHTB Consult participated in epidemiological reviews in Fiji, Madagascar and Zambia.
